We have one week left of summer. This week we are getting doctors appointments, dentist appointments and hair cuts done. The kids are getting ready for the big day!
Don't worry, the color washes out. No pink or green for school

What happened to your manners
Our church puts on an amazing Vacation Bible School every summer
It's 3 hours a day for 2 weeks!
The kids have so much fun singing songs, making crafts and meeting new friends.
They have been going for years.
While our church may be big, we do not have over 900 kids, so quite a few families who do not attend our church do attend VBS, which is fine...it's open to the public
In the past, my mother-in-law has driven the kids to and from VBS because I was working during the
day so I never saw all the people who attended VBS. With so many people attending each day, traffic can definitely get a little out of hand.
So, the other day, I was driving the kids to VBS. I was in the middle lane but needed to get over to the
left lane so I could turn into church. I put my blinker on and tried desperately to get into the left lane. Unfortunately, the other drivers would not let me over so I had to get aggressive and force my way in (now keep in mind, I tried to get over for about a mile) As I forced my way in, the driver behind me started honking her horn, waving her arms and giving me THE finger. You know which one I mean.
As soon as I get over into her lane, I need to get into the left hand turn lane which leads into our church
and guess who is right behind me? Yeap, THAT lady. The one flailing her arms, throwing up the
finger and honking her horn. Nice, right? Heading to church with small children in the car.
It was amazing to see the type of people showing up to VBS every day. These women are insane! I did
see a few guys but for the most part, it was the stay at home, minivan/SUV moms with too much time on their hands and not enough to do. It looked like a runway for Lululemon (the high end yoga clothing store)
All the moms were in their Lululemon, complete with makeup, hair done and perfume. I mean, really? If your going to go work out, that makeup is going to run down your face and that perfume is going to smell gross. A real workout involves a lot of sweat and hard work so makeup and perfume are not necessary. These women should come check out my bootcamp and we will show them what a "real" workout involves.
So needless to say, most of these women were using VBS as a babysitting service and social hour.
Then I saw this woman walk her daughter into my sons class
Can you say GROSS!!! She needs a bowl of pasta and some chocolate cake.
I was completely disgusted by this lady. I'm sure she's no older than late 30's but she looked like she
was in her 60's! What is she doing to herself? I can't imagine anyone who thinks she looks good. Get
some meat on those bones! That skinny is definitely not in style.
While I love my church and the amazing VBS they put on, I do not love these "free babysitting"
seeking mothers that attended. You could easily identify the members of our church. So much more
polite and grateful for the work put into the 2 weeks of VBS.
My kids will return next year but at least I know what to expect.

Happy 4th
4th of July is my most favorite holiday. I love everything about it. The BBQs, fireworks, all the flags flying high and of course the fireworks! We have attended many different 4th of July events since we had kids, in search of one we absolutely live and want to make a tradition of. It's hard out here in Arizona. The heat and million people can make it difficult to enjoy the evening. We went to Prescott a few years ago but didn't stay for the fireworks. This year, Prescott had a hot shot crew that was killed while fighting a fire and we felt we needed to pay our respects to them. In case you didn't know, Kyle worked for the forest service for years a few years back. During wildfire season, he would go out with the hotshots and help. There were times that he was on the front line so when these Granite Mountain hotshots died, it really hit home. We decided that Prescott was the place to celebrate this year.
Prescott has a really cool 4th of July at one of the parks. There are rides, bounce houses, water slides and music. We loaded up the kids and a cooler of food and snacks and away we went. We found a perfect spot in the lush green grass and enjoyed an afternoon playing and relaxing. The fireworks were wonderful! They read off each of the 19 firefighters and sent of a firework for each one. Everyone stood and applauded each one. It was heartwarming to see the live and support to these brave men and their families.
Friday morning we visited the station where these men were stationed and paid our respects. It's an overwhelming experience to see some of these men's trucks still parked in the yard and all the wonderful notes people have left. We enjoyed seeing all the firefighter shirts from all over the southwest who have come by as well. While we were there, there was a group of hotshots there as well. To see these tough, rugged men crying made everyone appreciate what we have and hug our lived ones a little more.
We had such a wonderful time that we are going to make this our tradition. Theres just something about small town 4th of July that I love! Hope you all had a wonderful 4th as well.
